South Toowoomba is a suburban locality immediately south of the Toowoomba city centre in the Toowoomba Region, about 107 kilometres from the Brisbane CBD. Ruthven Street is the main commercial road, with James Street providing a prominent civic and local service frontage. St Patrick's Cathedral, Toowoomba South State School and Toowoomba Hospital are heritage-listed landmarks on James Street and nearby streets.

South Toowoomba is an office and consulting market, with medical or consulting suites and office suites and floors serving the city-centre fringe. Warehouses and factories provide a practical secondary stock for trade and service businesses. Toowoomba City, East Toowoomba and North Toowoomba are the closest comparison markets.
