Newtown is an inner-western Sydney suburb in the Marrickville Council area, about 4 kilometres from the Sydney CBD. King Street is the main trading strip and centre of commercial and entertainment activity, continuing with Enmore Road to form a long Victorian and Federation-era commercial precinct near Newtown railway station and the University of Sydney.

Newtown is an office and consulting market, with shopfronts, office suites and floors, and medical or consulting suites fitted into a dense, established high-street environment. Nearby commercial areas include Enmore, Erskineville and Camperdown.
