Mareeba is a rural town and locality in the Shire of Mareeba. Byrnes Street is the main town street, near the confluence of the Barron River, Granite Creek and Emerald Creek, with the Mulligan Highway, railway station and surrounding agricultural district defining its regional role.

Mareeba is an office and consulting market, with office suites and floors, medical or consulting suites and warehouses and factories serving a rural service centre and its agricultural economy. Atherton, Edmonton and Bentley Park are useful comparisons.
